This section covers annotation management (creation, edition, deletion, export) and the features for instantaneous lengths, perimeters, areas, and volumes computations that can be directly obtained from the geospatial data contained in the annotations.

1. Annotations Categories

Annotations are either user-defined, working on layers available in or the results of some analytical process, for example, object detections.

Manually-created annotations types available are :

  • Polygon
  • Line
  • Point

2. Drawing & Editing an Annotation

Select the annotation type you want to create from the right hand side panel:

2.1 Annotation Description

It is possible to add a description under the annotation. Click in the annotation to edit from the layers panel to display the annotation properties.

2.2 Annotation Tagging

It is possible to add one or more tags to an annotation. From the annotation properties panel Click on + Add tag :

2.3 Searching for Tagged Annotations

From the main projects view, enter the tag description in the Search bar. The search will return the list of projects containing this tag.

3. Polygon Annotation Features

3.1. Perimeter & Surface Measurement

After completion of the polygon annotation drawing, the resulting polygon area is computed and displayed in the annotation panel :

3.2 Volume Computation

It is possible to derive the volume estimate from the polygon surface. Select the volume method in the drop-down list from:

  • Lowest point
  • Triangulated Surface
  • Best fit plane
  • Z value

Note: It is possible to change a annotated surface in the vector file.

4. Point Annotation Features

Coordinates and Altitude can easily be read from the annotation properties panel.

5. Line Annotation Features

5.1. Distance Measurement

Line can be used for distance evaluation. The annotation Length is displayed in the right hand panel :

5.2. Elevation Profile Computation

It is possible to immediately compute and display an Elevation Profile along the cross-section that was defined by the Line annotation. Select Compute Elevation Profile from the right hand panel :

6. Deleting an Annotation

/!\ Deleting an annotation is a non-reversible action. It is achieved from the top right side of the annotation panel :

7. Attaching files to an Annotation

It is possible to attach files to an annotation. This can for instance be used to store close range picture taken from an asset after having fixed an issue on the field, so as to report & archive work done. After clicking an annotation, select Attachments from the right panel:

Click Upload:

Preview is available:

8. Using Annotations for Semantic Layers

Annotations and their styling features can be efficiently used to mark specific items or zones within an asset, for instance as an assistance in fieldwork planning. Color codes corresponding to items category can be used such as the red to mark the firefighting lines in the infrastructure example below.
